It's late and I'm not sure I can provide exhaustive references, but Ziba was a servant originally from Saul's household. When King Saul was deposed, Jonathan (the heir to the throne) and all other known descendants of Saul's were dead; mostly killed in battle. Ziba is now serving in the household of the "new" King, but evidently is still loyal to Saul (perhaps understandably; servants were essentially part of the royal household back then).

Now, it may be wrong to read too much into Ziba's motive and I don't want to be guilty of spiritualizing a text that wasn't intended to be, but look how quickly he responds to David's question "Is there anyone left of the house of Saul...?" He doesn't know that David truly wants to show mercy and grace, but perhaps assumes he wants to execute him (as would have been the law). So quickly he draws David's attention to the one (crippled and in exile) who David couldn't possibly be interested in - Mephibosheth couldn't possibly be any threat to him!

We see Ziba referenced again, in 2 Samuel 16:4 and 19:26-27...where he slanders and betrays King David and Mephibosheth both, showing his true colors -- a turncoat.

Hope that helps some!Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15411152395819469453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6775992547950018841.post-38737954534887395882009-11-28T18:25:24.867-08:002009-11-28T18:25:24.867-08:00Marie:

One is Ziba and another is Balaam. Why did you write that Ziba was serving the wrong master?

BTW, your blog is great!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6775992547950018841.post-67881296376443466432009-11-27T05:34:21.710-08:002009-11-27T05:34:21.710-08:00Hi Joanna,

You are a struggling one, and He wants to help you.

It is sad that your "friends" have issued you an ultimatum - what they don't realize is that you can't simply change your behavior until you learn to renew your mind. The Holy Spirit will help you do this, as you learn to surrender to Him.

If you will shoot me an e-mail at marie4thtimemom@yahoo.com, I would be happy to correspond with you privately. This is a process and you would most likely benefit from counsel - I have been in the same place that you are in and I know what it's like! I am also on Skype. Hope to hear from you soon!Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15411152395819469453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6775992547950018841.post-31552518770130030892009-11-26T23:52:20.758-08:002009-11-26T23:52:20.758-08:00i need your help..
